We all know that Game of Thrones is not a show that shies away from graphic violence. But the newest poster for Season 2 (which starts on April 1, people!) is disgusting even by that standard. The poster is the newest entry in a series of five posters based around the "War of Five Kings," each of which was designed by fans. The first Five Kings poster clearly represents Robb Stark:
The second poster, which I assume is a nod to Joffrey Baratheon, is not for the faint of heart (although presumably, if you're watching GoT, your heart is not faint), and can therefore be found after the jump.
It's nice that even a decapitated Sean Bean gets to remain involved in the show's marketing, and the poster is clever in its reference to GoT's boldest, most shocking Season 1 moment. But I'm currently stuck imagining some poor soul on their way to work, turning a corner, and being confronted by Ned Stark's rotting head on the side of a bus station. That is not a good way to start your day.
Ignoring the rotting head for a moment, I'm not a huge fan of the poster's design. Maybe it's the fact that I first saw it on an all-white background, but there is a lot of blank space at the top of the poster. And what is that weird, dirty texture at the bottom? Is it supposed to be fire? Blood? Dirt? Random background noise? I'm confused. And why is the "k" in "likes" glowing?
Oh well. This does nothing to lessen my excitement for Season 2, which looks awesome. Winter is coming!
